Matthew Schrage is a deaf architectural designer, researcher, and writer interested in the intersections of architecture and social justice. Informed by his lived experiences as a disabled architecture student and professional, his work investigates the spatial and political dimensions of ableism and disability in architectural education and practice. He was recognized as the Outstanding Senior of the class of 2023 at Virginia Tech School of Architecture for his critical research about and advocacy for people with disabilities, including his award-winning thesis project, ‘Towards an Anti-Ableist Architecture,’ which forms the basis for The Ultimatum.

Dr. Andrew Gipe-Lazarou is a professor at the Virginia Tech School of Architecture whose scholarship explores the impacts of alternative sensory perspectives on design practice and education. His work, which has been internationally and nationally recognized for excellence in design education, is informed by more than a decade of leadership experience of design education initiatives for persons with vision-impairment and collaborative partnerships with a global network of non-profit organizations and state agencies serving people with disabilities.
